Scorch 2 is a ground-up rebuild with two sampler engines, 475+ factory presets drawn from live instruments, analog-inspired sounds and the full Scorch 1 library. Its Chaos Knob, Bite, Space and Motion macros and integrated sequencer turn a single preset into melodies, chords and basslines.
Every composer knows the session where the picture needs a hybrid pulse, a strange melodic motif or a textured bass — and the clock is not interested in a long sound-design detour. The scorch 2 synth from Sauceware Audio is built for that moment. It is not a cosmetic update: Sauceware rebuilt the instrument from the ground up around two sampler engines, deep modulation, integrated effects and a MIDI sequencer, so a single patch can carry you from first idea to a working musical part.
Two Sampler Engines, Shaped Independently
Each of the two sampler engines offers detailed control over speed, pitch and panning, with its own filter and envelope. That means the layers can be shaped independently or blended, combining different samples into instruments that move well beyond their source material. The factory content gives you plenty to work with: 475+ presets combining live instruments, analog synthesizer sounds and the complete original Scorch 1 library, which is included in full. Scorch 2 is a standalone product, so owning the first version is not required.
The signature control is the Chaos Knob. One movement can transform pitch, modulation and sonic character simultaneously, turning a restrained preset into something far stranger without opening a single sub-page — and because it is automatable in your DAW, it can drive transitions, builds and evolving textures across a cue. Three further macros keep the most expressive changes within reach: Bite for edge, Space for dimension and Motion for movement. Together they make the front panel a performance surface rather than a preset browser.
Modulation and Effects Under the Surface
When a part needs proper design work, the deeper pages are there. Scorch 2 provides 3 LFOs and 3 envelopes that can be routed to sampler and effects parameters, so sounds can evolve over time instead of sitting static under a long scene. DAW-automatable preset randomisation adds another route into unexpected variations of a sound you already like.
Five integrated effects complete the instrument: Reverb, Delay, Distortion, Chorus and Tape. Because they live inside Scorch 2, space, movement, saturation, width and character are applied as part of the patch itself, which is exactly what you want when a texture has to arrive in the mix already shaped. A processed source can become a completely different instrument before it ever reaches your bus processing.
A Sequencer That Writes With You
The integrated MIDI sequencer is what turns Scorch 2 from a sound source into an idea generator. It provides separate Chord, Melody and Bass channels, pre-made MIDI blocks and a harmony system designed to make MIDI manipulation accessible without extensive music theory knowledge. Load a sound, select a key, experiment with a chord progression, then explore melody and bass patterns against it — a practical way to sketch harmonic movement for a scene, test a motif against picture, or find a bassline that locks to a progression you have already written.
Sauceware positions the instrument for hip-hop, trap, R&B, pop, drill and electronic production, and for beatmaking and experimental work generally. In a composer’s toolkit it earns its keep differently: as a fast source of modern melodic and textural material when a cue needs contemporary weight alongside the orchestral palette.
Facts, Formats and Requirements
Scorch 2 runs as VST3 and AU on macOS 10.11 or newer and Windows 10 or newer, on Intel or Apple Silicon Macs and Intel or AMD x86-64 Windows machines, with 10 GB of free disk space, a 1280 × 720 or higher display and an internet connection required for installation and activation. Windows on ARM is not currently supported, and there is no native AAX version; Sauceware notes that the VST/AU versions can be used in Pro Tools through a third-party wrapper such as Blue Cat’s PatchWork. Supported DAWs listed include FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, Bitwig, Reaper and Reason.
