D16 Phoscyon 2 – Acid Bassline Synth with Sequencer, Arp and 19 Distortions
€119.00 Original price was: €119.00.€49.99Current price is: €49.99.
D16 Phoscyon 2 rebuilds the classic 303-style acid bassline synth with a redesigned signal path, a modern sequencer and arpeggiator, pattern randomization and 19 distortion models. More than 800 presets and patterns cover acid house, techno, trance and electro.
Some sounds define a genre so completely that a single sliding, accented note identifies it. The classic 303-style acid bassline is one of them, and D16 Phoscyon 2 is a modern instrument built around that character — with the signal path completely redesigned for its second generation, greater emulation accuracy, and the sequencing, effects and performance tools contemporary production expects. For composers, it serves both as authentic period colour for acid house and rave-era cues and as a sequenced bass voice for techno-influenced scoring.
The Acid Architecture, Extended
The elements that made the original architecture famous are all present and interacting: resonant filtering, accent, slide, short repeating sequences, real-time cutoff movement and distortion. Accented steps respond differently from ordinary notes, producing the dynamic push that animates even a simple pattern, while slide connects selected notes into the continuous phrases that are the style’s signature. Phoscyon 2 also recreates the distinctive 303-style vibrato technique based on alternating notes and sliding, rather than a conventional LFO-only approach.
Beyond faithful behaviour, additional controls inspired by popular hardware modifications and circuit-bending techniques extend the palette. The instrument can stay traditional when a cue needs an instantly recognisable acid line, or move into more aggressive and experimental territory when the brief calls for something the original hardware could not do.
Sequencer, Arpeggiator and Music Roulette
Acid is as much about programming as synthesis, so Phoscyon 2 provides two sequencer workflows — one retaining aspects of the classic hardware approach, one offering modern graphical clarity — with patterns editable, loopable and switchable during playback. The advanced arpeggiator goes beyond up-and-down cycling, generating deliberate musical motives from riff templates you prepare. Patterns trigger via MIDI notes, MIDI CC or the interface, suiting both arranged and performed work.
The integrated randomizer, Music Roulette, handles inspiration responsibly: you decide which notes and step attributes may change, and a real-time density control sets how far the result departs from the existing pattern. It is effective for variations, fills and breaking repetitive loops. Finished patterns export by drag and drop directly into the DAW, bridging the internal sequencer and conventional MIDI arrangement. Live Override keeps performances animated, letting you influence Accent, Slide and Vibrato while a sequence runs.
19 Distortions and Reorderable Effects
Distortion is an essential ingredient of the acid sound, and Phoscyon 2 includes 19 distinctive distortion models inspired by hardware associated with recognised acid-production techniques, ranging from harmonic bite to fully aggressive lines. The insert effects can be reordered, and since processing order changes how each stage responds, the FX section functions as part of the sound design rather than a finishing shelf. MIDI Learn maps controls — cutoff and resonance first, but distortion and performance parameters too — to hardware for hands-on sessions.
Content, Interface and Compatibility
More than 800 factory presets and patterns are included, providing ready-to-use sounds and sequences as well as clear examples of how synth, sequencer and effects interact. The interface offers multiple sizes, Light and Dark themes, and HiDPI and Retina support. Phoscyon 2 runs on Windows 7 or newer and macOS 10.13 through macOS 26, on Intel and native Apple Silicon, in VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats depending on platform, at 44.1 kHz or higher; a compatible host is required. At €49.99, 58% below the regular €119 price, it is a complete acid-line production instrument — equally at home in a period dance cue, a contemporary techno score or an experimental electronic arrangement.
There is also a scoring argument for a dedicated acid voice. Period dance scenes, rave flashbacks and club source cues live or die on authenticity, and a purpose-built instrument with the right sequencer behaviour convinces in a way a generic bass synth with a resonant filter rarely does.
