Description

The antares avox 4 vocal toolkit gathers eleven plugins devoted entirely to the voice, which makes it unusually relevant to composers working with vocals, choir textures or vocal sound design. Harmony Engine Evo creates realistic vocal harmonies for layered arrangements. Choir Evo turns a single voice into a choir with up to 32 voices layered. Duo Evo instantly doubles a vocal line for a wide, full stereo sound. Between those three, one recorded singer can become a backing section, a full choir or a thickened lead, without booking a session.

Harmony, Choir and Doubling

For screen work that capability has a specific value. A lone vocalist recorded in a project studio can be expanded into the kind of layered texture a trailer or a main title demands, and a solo line written for a character can be harmonised in ways that would be impractical to arrange and record under deadline. The source positions the toolkit for pop, EDM, film, podcasts, video games and post-production, and the film and game uses are easy to imagine wherever voices carry atmosphere rather than lyrics.

Character, Modelling and Transformation

Mic Mod EFX emulates over 100 legendary studio microphones, adding vintage character to a vocal take recorded on whatever microphone was available. Throat Evo uses physical modelling to redesign vocal characteristics, from subtle changes to extremes. Mutator Evo applies extreme pitch and throat effects for robotic voices, alien textures and wild vocal design. Articulator Evo recreates classic talkbox effects in plugin form, aimed at synth vocals and robotic guitar riffs. Aspire Evo shapes breathiness and airy tones for natural or dramatic texture.

Read together, those five are a voice-design kit. Game and animation work constantly requires voices that are not quite human: creatures, machines, spirits, distorted communications. Modelling the throat and the microphone, then shifting pitch and breath independently, gives far more believable results than a single pitch shifter, because the components of a voice are being adjusted separately rather than smeared together.

The Finishing Tools

Warm adds vintage analog tube saturation for silky warmth and depth. Punch Evo adds dynamic punch and clarity so vocals cut through a mix. Sybil Evo is a flexible de-esser for taming harsh sibilance. These are the unglamorous processors that determine whether a vocal survives being placed against a full orchestral score, where sibilance and a lack of presence become obvious very quickly. In a cue with a featured vocal, they are likely to be used on every pass.

Technical Details

Formats are VST3, AU and AAX at 64-bit only, on macOS 10.14 to 11 and Windows 10 and 11, with an Intel or AMD dual-core CPU or better, 4GB RAM minimum and 8GB recommended, sample rates up to 192kHz, and compatibility with Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase, FL Studio and Pro Tools. Authorisation requires iLok, either hardware or iLok Cloud, and internet is needed only for activation and updates. The licence is a lifetime, one-time purchase.

Eleven plugins, one subject. If voices feature in your scores, as singers, choirs or designed creatures, this toolkit covers their creation, transformation and finishing in a single install.

Before buying, factor in the practical points: authorisation runs through iLok, either a hardware key or iLok Cloud, the plugins are 64-bit only, and the stated macOS range in the source material is 10.14 to 11, so check current compatibility if your system is newer. None of that diminishes the creative proposition. Voices are the most recognisable sound in any score, and the most legally and logistically complicated to record in numbers. A toolkit that can harmonise, multiply, model and reshape them from a single performance gives a composer options that would otherwise require a choir, several singers and a studio day to achieve.
